Ankara Denies Playing Role in CIA Renditions
Following the European Council (EC), Amnesty International has also claimed Turkey played a role in the illegal torture operations of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Denying the claims, Ankara announced Turkey never took part in any phase of the process, nor will it ever.

Amnesty International in its report, “Partners in Crime: Europe’s Role in US Renditions” published prior to the European Union (EU) Summit to be held today, revealed the US illegally detained several men with the excuse of counter terrorism and tortured them by secretly transferring to other countries.

Accordingly, the seven countries that played a role in the CIA’s eight illegal renditions, in which 13 people were murdered, are listed as Britain, Italy, Germany, Bosnia Herzegovina, Macedonia, Sweden and Turkey.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Namik Tan responded to the questions related to the issue, “Turkey never played nor will play such a role in any phase of the process.”

When asked, “Whether or not the Incirlik Base was used without the knowledge of Turkey”, Tan replied: “Incirlik is the base of the armed forces. It is impossible since the authorities are aware of every step taken.”
